近日內地，有網民發起罷遊香港，「我們是上帝！」「要不是中央政府照顧你們香港，完蛋了！」我不介意有上帝，不過都想知道上帝有幾多Power。
趁著五一假期，不妨來算算賬，看看自由行對香港經濟體系，有多大推動作用，為令數據有可信性，不妨採用旅遊發展局、政府統計處及獨立顧問的研究報告，數據只上到2012年，但一定準確。
註釋： ^ 住宿服務包括酒店、賓館、旅舍及其他提供短期住宿服務的機構單位。

上圖可見，迎年以來批發及零售業佔GDP的比重，由2008年的 3.8%上升至5.0%，這個數字包括了本地居民和所有訪港旅客的消費，可以看到，零售從來都不是香港經濟的核心，做個極端的假設，如果香港市民和遊客，從今日起停止在香港消費一年，其實GDP都只會跌5%，香港2013年第四季的GDP增長率是3%，即是說就算零售業一池死水，只需忍耐約一年半，就能將損失追回來。

第二張圖的左方，是所有訪港旅客，佔零售銷貨額的比例，在2012年上半年，大約只有33%，本地居民就佔67%，而且這33%包括了歐洲、美國、日本等已發展國家的旅客，假設這部份人的消費大約佔旅客的25%，實際上香港只有25%的零售，來自中國旅客。
從右表所見，零售業的GDP，有一半以上的時間，來自本地居民的增長貢獻，即是說真正影響零售業的發展，取決於香港內部的預算與經濟發展情況。
返回圖一，假設有25%的批發和零售收入，從自由行而來，即是說罷遊香港，就算獲得100%中國旅客響應，對香港的GDP影響大約為5% x 0.25 = 1.25%，實在是微乎其微，商務及經濟發展局寫的《香港承受及接待旅客能力評估報告》，亦指出綜合零售、酒店、膳食、交通服務、其他消費後，自由行對香港GDP的影響為1.3%，與本欄的估算相去不遠。
